I was born in Georgia, grew up in Spartanburg SC and moved back to Georgia, a bit north of Atlanta, about 5 years ago to take a job at Perimeter Church.
I serve their with their worship and arts ministry, shepherding, training and equipping a group of amazing musicians to be better worshippers.
We learn a lot from each other and hopefully grow to be a little more like Jesus.
How did the song Indescribable get written? Words first, music first? Is there a story behind it?
I wrote Indescribable as I was driving down the road near Asheville, NC.
I did my best to scribble all those big 5 syllable words on the back of a bank receipt I found in my car.
When I write, its usually words and music at the same time. Some songs take me forever to write but this one came pretty quickly.
What is your advice for women wanting to grow in their worship leading gift?
I am so thankful that God is raising up women worship leaders!
Though there’s so much I could say, I’ll just pick two:
Firstly, don’t be afraid to be emotive in worship. That’s one of our greatest strengths and it beautiful before God and the church.
Secondly, don’t let your emotions rule in leading worship. We worship God based on who he is. His character never changes and he is never any less worthy of our praise, even when we don’t feel like worshiping Him. Our emotions are made by God and like any of his beautiful creations, these too must bow before Him.
What do you do for fun?
My husband Martin and I love to hike and explore. We bought this book a couple of Christmases ago called “50 best hikes in North Georgia” and we have made it one of our goals to do all 50 hikes.
This is a huge feat for us since Martin is a brain tumor survivor (and I am just naturally lazy!) but it has been an amazing challenge thus far and we have spent some of the best moments of our marriage hanging off some cliff in the middle of nowhere.
We take off at the end of this week for hike #30!
Thanks Laura! We really appreciate your insights and getting to know you a bit better
Enjoy your hike!
